Sessions with MANA have been instrumental to my mental health recovery and personal growth to the point where my opinion about counselling has shifted and I honestly would prefer to have weekly sessions for the rest of my life. I think it’s so valuable to have someone who you trust and who can help you decipher and navigate the obstacles that life presents. I have recommended these services to many of my friends already and Cannot say enough good things about mana. She is extremely wise, helpful and a blessing to my life I am continuously grateful for.

Dina is simply the best counsellor I’ve ever had. She has the ability to really dig deep into the emotions, grasp what’s happening beyond the surface, and connect the dots to help understand the bigger picture of what’s happening and how to face it. I’ve been to different counsellors before but I can truly see the positive impact of Dina’s practice. I can’t recommend her enough. She’s great!

Your description of Dina's ability to dig deep, grasp what's happening beyond the surface, and connect the dots to help you see the bigger picture really captures her skill as a therapist. Proven Approaches for Trauma Therapy We Trust in

At Well Beings Counselling, we believe in using scientifically proven trauma-informed approaches that are designed to meet each individual’s unique needs for effective trauma recovery. Our team of experienced therapists focus on Evidence-Based Treatment (EBT) methods such as Somatic Experiencing, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and others, ensuring that every approach is backed by extensive research, offering you a safe, reliable path toward healing.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) is an evidence-based psychological treatment that helps individuals reprocess traumatic experiences by identifying and changing distressing thought patterns, emotions, and behaviours.

We believe in the transformative power of Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) to support individuals in overcoming trauma by using Cognitive Restructuring and Exposure Therapy, allowing for gradual desensitization to distressing memories. Cognitive Processing reshapes unhelpful beliefs while creating a Trauma Narrative allows painful experiences to feel less overwhelming over time. Our approach incorporates Mindfulness-Based CBT to enhance present-moment awareness and strengthen emotional regulation skills.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapeutic approach that uses bilateral stimulation to process and heal trauma-related memories, reducing emotional distress.

At Well Beings Counselling, we trust EMDR because it helps in trauma memory processing, guiding individuals through the desensitization phase to ease emotional pain. Our certified therapists apply the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model to facilitate healing by transforming negative and positive cognitions related to trauma. Using the Eight-Phase EMDR Protocol, we guide individuals to process traumatic memories and resolve deep-rooted emotional distress, ultimately fostering healing and personal growth.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals process trauma by confronting feared memories and situations, reducing their emotional intensity over time.

At Well Beings Counselling, we trust Prolonged Exposure Therapy because PE therapy allows clients to engage in imaginal exposure, processing trauma memories in a safe, structured environment. Our therapists guide individuals through in vivo exposure, which helps them gradually face real-life situations that trigger fear. They also use the fear hierarchy to ensure progress at a manageable pace. By applying emotional processing theory, we encourage avoidance reduction and the re-telling of a repeated trauma narrative, promoting long-term healing and recovery.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative Therapy is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals reshape their trauma-related stories by externalizing their painful experiences and reauthoring new and personal narratives.

Well Beings Counselling trusts Narrative Therapy because it empowers individuals to externalize trauma, enabling them to separate their identity from their experiences. Our licensed therapists guide individuals through therapeutic conversations to explore dominant narratives and develop thick descriptions of their lives, creating space for unique outcomes.

Somatic Experiencing (SE)

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-centred therapy that helps release stored trauma by gently guiding the nervous system toward regulation and restoring a sense of safety.

We trust Somatic Experiencing to help individuals reconnect with their bodies, fostering awareness of sensations often tied to unresolved trauma. Our certified therapists guide individuals through titration and pendulation, gently processing trauma without overwhelming the nervous system. By addressing the fight, flight and freeze response and enhancing resourcing, we create a safe space for individuals to release stored trauma, promoting healing and emotional regulation.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) & Meditation

Mindfulness-based stress Reduction (MBSR) and Meditation is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals reduce trauma-related stress by cultivating present-moment focus, mindful breathing, and non-judgmental awareness.

Through MBSR and Meditation, we provide individuals with effective stress reduction techniques which help them manage overwhelming emotions tied to trauma. Our therapists guide individuals through body scan meditation and loving-kindness meditation, fostering emotional resilience and compassion.

Psychodynamic Therapy

Psychodynamic therapy for trauma explores unconscious processes and childhood experiences, aiming to uncover the root causes of emotional distress and provide deep healing through insight-oriented approaches.

Well Beings Counselling trusts psychodynamic therapy’s power to access unconscious processes and address unresolved childhood experiences. Our experienced therapists help individuals understand how past traumas influence current behaviours by focusing on defence mechanisms and using free association techniques. We work through transference and countertransference and recognize defence mechanisms that foster emotional resilience, helping individuals break free from past wounds and regain strength and control.

Group Therapy & Support Groups

Group Therapy and Support Groups provide a safe and supportive space where individuals can heal from trauma and anxiety through Shared Experiences, mutual support from peers, and meaningful connections.

We trust in the power of group therapy to create an environment based on confidentiality and trust where facilitated discussions encourage interpersonal learning, reminding individuals that they are not alone in their journey. Through shared experiences and group cohesion, our certified therapists foster a supportive community, allowing you to heal and grow together with the strength of peer support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Trauma therapy helps you make intrusive memories and flashbacks feel less overwhelming by gently guiding the mind and body toward safety. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) help reprocess painful memories so they no longer feel as intense or uncontrollable. Grounding techniques, mindfulness exercises, and Somatic experiences bring awareness back to the present, easing the fear and distress of being pulled into the past. At Well Beings Counselling, therapy happens at a safe pace, helping you regain control so memories lose their power and healing feels possible.

A typical trauma therapy session focuses on creating a safe therapeutic space where clients can explore traumatic experiences at their own pace with the support of a licensed therapist trained in trauma-focused approaches. The therapist may begin by helping clients develop coping strategies, such as grounding techniques or breathing exercises, to build emotional safety before discussing trauma-related memories or distressing thoughts. Each session is guided by the client’s needs, whether focusing on processing trauma triggers, understanding emotional responses, or strengthening personal resilience through evidence-based therapies.

Feeling safe and heard is the foundation of healing, and therapy should always be a space where you can share without fear. At Well Beings Counselling, every session is built on confidentiality, trust, and trauma-informed care, ensuring your personal experiences are respected and protected. Our therapists create a non-judgmental space, setting clear boundaries and offering gentle support so healing happens at the right pace for you. Knowing you are in a secure and private environment makes it easier to open up, process emotions, and take steps toward feeling more in control.

Healing takes time, and emotional regulation and well-being improve at a pace that feels right for you. Some people notice small shifts like feeling calmer, reacting differently to triggers, or using coping skills more efficiently within a few therapy sessions. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing gently guide the mind and body toward healing, helping emotions feel more manageable over time. At Well Beings Counselling, therapy unfolds in a safe, supportive, and steady way, so every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to feeling more in control.

You can know therapy works when you begin noticing positive changes in your emotional well-being, thought patterns, and ability to manage stressful situations or relationship challenges. Many clients experience a growing sense of self-awareness, increased emotional resilience, and greater clarity when exploring personal goals or addressing mental health concerns during therapy sessions. Regular conversations with your therapist also provide valuable feedback opportunities, allowing you to assess progress, celebrate personal growth, and adjust the therapy approach if needed.

herapists track and measure progress throughout the therapy process by collaboratively setting treatment goals, regularly reviewing emotional changes, and adjusting therapy techniques based on client feedback and session outcomes. Each therapy session offers opportunities to reflect on coping strategies, explore shifts in thought patterns, and assess improvements in emotional regulation or relationship dynamics, depending on the counselling focus. Many therapists also use evidence-based assessment tools, progress scales, or self-report questionnaires to monitor symptom reduction and mental health improvement.

No, healing from trauma doesn’t mean having to relive the pain or go through it all over again. Our trauma therapist works with clients to develop coping strategies, emotional regulation techniques, and grounding skills that help process trauma memories at a comfortable pace. Many evidence-based therapies, including EMDR therapy, somatic therapy, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (TF-CBT), allow clients to heal by addressing emotional responses, trauma triggers, and nervous system regulation without re-traumatization. Every therapy session honours personal boundaries, ensuring the healing process feels safe, empowering, and centred on your emotional well-being.

Yes, Well Beings Counselling offers in-person and online trauma therapy sessions, so support is available in the safest way for you. Feeling supported matters most, and both options ensure you are met with care, understanding, and guidance on your journey.

Well Beings Counselling offers compassionate trauma therapists who combine evidence-based techniques, emotional support, and collaborative care, empowering individuals to process trauma at their own pace while building inner strength and hope for the future.

Feeling uncomfortable with a therapist is entirely valid, and finding a therapeutic relationship where you feel safe, respected, and understood plays a vital role in counselling. Many clients benefit from discussing their concerns directly with the therapist, allowing both to adjust the therapy approach or explore ways to improve emotional safety during sessions. Suppose the therapeutic fit does not feel right after an open conversation. In that case, Well Beings Counselling supports clients in finding a different licensed therapist whose counselling style and specialized experience better align with their mental health needs.

The best therapy for trauma depends on personal experiences, symptoms, and emotional needs, with evidence-based approaches such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Psychodynamic Therapy recommended to help individuals process trauma, manage symptoms, and rebuild emotional stability.
Some physiotherapy approaches also complement trauma therapy for individuals experiencing depression linked to trauma and physical tension stored in the body. Somatic therapy guided by physiotherapists trained in trauma-sensitive care helps individuals release stored trauma through gentle body awareness exercises and movement techniques. Breathwork and progressive muscle relaxation address trauma-related physical symptoms such as muscle tension, fatigue, and sleep disturbances.
Finding the right therapist often starts by identifying personal symptoms, whether intrusive thoughts, emotional numbness, chronic sadness, or difficulty trusting others. Well Beings Counselling offers compassionate therapists who prioritize emotional safety, collaborative care, and evidence-based strategies designed to meet each individual’s unique trauma and depression recovery needs.

The best type of therapist for trauma includes psychotherapists trained in trauma-informed care, such as clinical psychologists, registered psychotherapists, and clinical social workers who specialize in therapies like EMDR, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and psychodynamic therapy to support emotional healing.

A clinical psychologist offers trauma-focused assessments and evidence-based treatments designed to address trauma-related thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in individuals struggling with depression. A registered psychotherapist provides relational support, helping individuals explore trauma memories and develop coping skills through safe therapeutic relationships. A clinical social worker brings expertise in community resources and trauma-sensitive counselling, assisting individuals who experience systemic challenges alongside personal trauma.
