FAQ

Our therapists clearly list their expertise and qualifications, making it easy for you to choose a specialist that matches your needs. Many offer online and phone sessions, which make accessing psychological support easier.

Please browse our website to see available therapists or contact our friendly team if you need support. They'll assess your current challenges and match you with a counsellor who aligns with your preferences.

Yes, we have strict processes to ensure each therapist has professional certifications. Our Toronto therapists are registered by the Ontario College of Registered Psychotherapists (CRPO) or have other certifications to demonstrate their knowledge.

We aim to give each client unparalleled support and help them navigate issues to enjoy happier lives. Choosing Well Beings Counselling gives you access to highly qualified therapists with years of experience treating clients from all backgrounds.

If you're paying for private therapy, each 50-minute session costs $160. Couples therapy rates are $200 for 50 minutes and $300 for 75-minute sessions. Our specialist trauma sessions are $160 for 50 minutes and $230 for 75 minutes.

Individuals with Extended Health Plan Coverage should check their policies and enquire whether all or some costs are covered. You can find more information about our fees here.

Some of our therapists are listed as RP (Q), meaning they fulfill all academic obligations and have the necessary theoretical knowledge to support clients. However, newly qualified individuals require more working hours before gaining full registration.

These therapists are still able to treat a range of mental health conditions, but their sessions are often more affordable, giving you access to support at lower rates.
Is therapy free in Ontario? The Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program is available for individuals suffering from anxiety, depression or other issues. It offers free CBT support for a set amount of time and can be beneficial if you can't afford private therapy.

However, the sessions are limited, and some people don't receive enough support to tackle deep-seated issues. While the program is ideal for minor mental health issues, funding your therapy or going through your health insurance offers long-term support.

If you have an Ontario Health Insurance Plan, you can cover brief CBT sessions and other forms of therapy in public settings. Unfortunately, private settings aren't applicable for the OHIP.

Many other insurance plans cover hospitalization or doctor support but might not fund private therapy. It's a good idea to check the policy in detail and see whether your employer's health insurance can help you pay for treatment.

Many types of therapy are available, with each evidence-based approach offering unique advantages. The type you have will depend on the issues you're experiencing and the outcomes you want to achieve.
We offer a range of therapeutic interventions, including:

  • CBT: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is best for individuals who want to change their thoughts and behaviours. It involves cognitive restructuring and is beneficial for short—or long-term support.
  • Psychodynamic Therapy: As an explorative form of therapy, the psychodynamic approach looks at how previous trauma or childhood experiences alter an individual's thinking patterns and behaviours. It aims to resolve these issues and help you move on.
  • ACT: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is an approach that empowers people to accept their emotions and negative thoughts while committing to changing them. It embraces core values and helps people take control of their lives.
  • Person-Centred Therapy: This form of therapy places the client at the heart of everything, believing they understand themselves better than anyone else. The therapist is there to facilitate personal growth and help individuals take control of their lives.
  • EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a unique therapeutic approach that helps individuals process previous traumas and reduce their emotional impact on their lives.

It depends on which issues you're dealing with and how you want to approach them. While CBT is an action-based approach, it might not be suitable if you're dealing with previous trauma or deep-seated emotional issues.

Other forms of psychotherapy that go more in-depth can suit people recovering from past experiences, abuse and PTSD. Ultimately, the type of therapy you have should offer the best outcomes and provide support for each session.

Our counsellor matching service considers your needs and finds a therapist to align their approach with them.

Many people seek therapy, and they might not be experiencing significant psychological distress. Therapy is about opening up in a safe place and gaining clarity about specific problems, thought processes and behaviours.

If you're dealing with any of the following, therapy can be beneficial:

    • Mental Health Issues: Depression, anxiety, phobias, mood swings, and aggression can impact your ability to work and form relationships, but therapy helps you learn coping mechanisms and eliminate harmful behaviours.
    • Negative Thinking: Whether it's 'I'm not good enough,' 'Nobody likes me,' or any other form of negative thinking, these patterns usually occur due to attachment disorders or previous experiences.
    • Emotional Issues: Some experiences can lead to prolonged emotional distress, including fear, fight or flight reactions and aggression. Dealing with the root cause of these emotions can help you overcome emotional issues.
    • Life Changes: Relationship breakdowns, grief, job stress, and other changes can cause severe emotional reactions. Seeking treatment is beneficial to work through the negative experiences and move on from them.
    • Relationship Issues: Many couples experience relationship issues, but couples therapy can help them reach a position of mutual understanding and come to terms with their difficulties.
    • Family Counselling: Families might benefit from counselling when parents are going through a divorce or a member is dealing with significant emotional distress. Family therapy can help families understand each other and learn how to communicate.
Psychiatrists and psychotherapists both work in mental health but with very different functions. While a psychotherapist specializes in talking therapies, a psychiatrist treats mental health conditions through diagnosing, monitoring and prescribing medications for them.

If you're experiencing severe mental distress and don't yet have a diagnosis, seeing a psychiatrist can ensure a diagnosis and give you access to medication.

Psychiatrists can be beneficial as part of your treatment plan, while psychotherapy teaches valuable coping strategies and might reduce the need for medication.

Not at all. Online therapy often takes place through video messaging platforms, and our therapists use secure systems to protect your personal information.

Many people prefer online counselling as it enables them to work with a therapist and access support from the comfort of their homes.

Our flexible services are available in person, online, and over the phone, allowing people across Canada to access therapeutic support.

No, our therapy services are accessible without a referral. However, your doctor or psychiatrist might recommend counselling and refer you to us. Many clients decide they need help and make a proactive decision to invest in therapy.

It depends on the issues you're dealing with and your progress with each session. CBT and short-term therapy usually take place over six sessions or more, but psychotherapy and EMDR typically require long-term support.

Your therapist will check in with you regularly, assess your progress, and work with you until you are ready to end the sessions.

If you're ready to explore therapy, please get started today. You can use our website to choose a therapist or have our professional match you with one that suits your needs.

Once you have your initial consultation, your therapist will discuss which approach might benefit you most.

Our life coaching services might benefit you if you're at a crossroads or require decision-making support. Investing in life coaching for men is a great way to gain clarity on your current situation and take steps to move forward in life.
