Dina is simply the best counsellor I’ve ever had. She has the ability to really dig deep into the emotions, grasp what’s happening beyond the surface, and connect the dots to help understand the bigger picture of what’s happening and how to face it. I’ve been to different counsellors before but I can truly see the positive impact of Dina’s practice. I can’t recommend her enough. She’s great!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, it’s normal to feel stressed about going to therapy, especially when confronting difficult emotions or facing the unknown. The therapeutic process can bring up deep thoughts and feelings, leading to an emotional response to treatment that may initially feel overwhelming. Some people experience feeling drained after treatment, as discussing personal challenges requires mental and emotional energy. However, this is a natural part of the healing process, allowing individuals to work through issues and build long-term resilience.

Therapists create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can progress at their own pace. If therapy feels stressful, easing into sessions with small goals, practising self-care afterward, and openly discussing concerns with your therapist can help.

No, stress and anxiety are not the same, but they are closely related. Stress is a response to external pressures or demands and often subsides once the situation is resolved. At the same time, anxiety is a persistent feeling of worry or fear, even without an immediate threat. Both can impact mental health and lead to physical symptoms such as muscle tension, headaches, and difficulty sleeping, affecting daily life.

While stress can be managed through lifestyle adjustments, chronic anxiety may require professional support. At Well Beings Counselling, we provide evidence-based therapy to help individuals develop coping strategies tailored to their needs. If you’re struggling with overwhelming thoughts or prolonged emotional distress, seeking help from a qualified therapist can offer lasting relief and restore emotional balance.

Stress therapy works in the following way:

Step 1: Identifying Stressors and Emotional Patterns
Therapy begins with an in-depth assessment to pinpoint stress triggers, recurring thought patterns, and emotional responses affecting daily life. Understanding these elements allows for a personalized treatment plan tailored to individual needs.

Step 2: Learning Practical Coping Strategies
Therapists introduce evidence-based techniques, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for reframing negative thoughts and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to cultivate relaxation and self-awareness. These approaches help individuals regain control over their emotional and physiological responses.

Step 3: Implementing Stress Management Techniques
Clients actively practice stress-relief techniques, including deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, and guided imagery, to reduce tension and improve overall well-being. These tools become essential in handling real-life stressors effectively.

Step 4: Strengthening Emotional Resilience
Through emotional regulation and behavioural activation, therapy equips individuals with strategies to prevent stress buildup, improve work-life balance, and maintain stability even in high-pressure situations.

Step 5: Monitoring Progress and Long-Term Maintenance
Therapists help clients track their improvements, adjust strategies, and reinforce healthy coping mechanisms to ensure long-term stress management and emotional well-being.

The time it takes to feel better with stress therapy at Well Beings Counselling varies based on individual needs, the severity of stress, and personal commitment to treatment. Some clients experience noticeable relief within a few sessions, while others may benefit from ongoing support over several weeks or months. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and relaxation techniques help individuals develop effective coping strategies, leading to gradual improvements in emotional resilience and well-being. Progress is regularly assessed, and therapy is adjusted to ensure clients feel supported throughout their healing journey.

Yes, Well Beings Counselling’s stress therapy services are covered by many insurance providers. Coverage depends on your specific plan, including whether it includes mental health services, counselling, or psychotherapy. Many extended health benefits, employee assistance programs (EAPs), and ICBC-funded counselling options support therapy costs. If stress therapy hasn’t worked for you in the past, it doesn’t mean that another approach won’t be practical. Different therapy methods, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), or Biofeedback Therapy, offer unique techniques tailored to individual needs. The therapeutic relationship also plays a crucial role; working with a different therapist or adjusting the approach can lead to better results. Building trust takes time, and sessions are paced according to your comfort level, allowing you to share at your speed. Techniques like guided conversations, mindfulness exercises, and cognitive restructuring help ease the process, making it easier to express thoughts and emotions. If verbalizing feels difficult, alternative methods such as journaling, visualization, or gradual self-reflection exercises can also support communication. At Well Beings Counselling, we prioritize your emotional safety, ensuring a compassionate and patient-centred approach to help you feel heard and supported.

While talking to a friend about stress can offer emotional support, a therapist provides professional guidance, evidence-based techniques, and an unbiased perspective to help you effectively manage stress. Friends may provide comfort, but they often lack the training to identify underlying patterns, emotional triggers, and maladaptive coping strategies. A therapist creates a structured space where Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and other therapeutic interventions can build long-term stress management skills. At Well Beings Counselling, therapy is designed to equip you with personalized coping strategies and emotional regulation techniques beyond everyday conversations, ensuring sustainable mental well-being.
